Theoretical analysis and experiment on gas film stiffness with slip flow in a spiral-grooved dry gas seal

Purpose This study aims to the gas film stiffness of spiral groove dry seal. Design/methodology/approach The present represents first attempt calculate in consideration slipping effect by using new test technology for seals. First, a theoretical model modified generalized Reynolds equation is derived with micro gap Second, examines micro-scale vibration and stationary ring determine establishing dynamic system. Findings An optimum value angle depth improved clearly seen: 1.34 rad (76.8º) 1 × 10 –5 m. Moreover, it can be observed that optimal structural parameters obtain higher experiment. average error between experiment theory less than 20%. Originality/value
